Important Changes Coming to SurePoint Finance Core (formerly Coyote Analytics)
Many law firms rely on SurePoint Finance Core, an on-premise solution formerly known as Coyote Analytics, to help power their daily operations. SurePoint has just announced an important change to partners, and we’re sharing it with you to help you prepare ahead.
SurePoint is transitioning to a new delivery of Finance Pro and Practice Pro, and is aiming to transition law firms to this combination of services. Because of this effort, SurePoint is ending support and service for Finance Core (Coyote Analytics) on February 28th, 2026.
Why is this changing?
SurePoint is making this change in order to fully focus on delivering a new and improved combination of SurePoint Finance Pro and Practice Pro. In an email to partners, they stated the following:
“Beginning in 2026, SurePoint will provide a modern path forward on our connected platform—Finance Pro and Practice Pro—delivering the security, scalability, and innovation many of our customers have asked for.”
The transition also stems from Microsoft changes that have affected the safety, security, and viability of the on-premise SurePoint Finance Core solution. SurePoint explains as follows:
“The technology landscape has shifted significantly: vendor support is tightening, complexity is rising, and cybersecurity demands have increased. Most urgently, Microsoft is deprecating key SQL Server versions used in the Finance Core products; once end-of-life is reached, critical security patches will no longer be available, materially increasing risk for firms that remain on-premise. In short, on-premise is no longer sustainable.”
SurePoint joins a growing group of technology vendors who are transitioning clients to cloud solutions and sunsetting on-premise offerings in favor of more streamlined, secure, and sustainable cloud options.
How does the change impact my law firm?
While you likely won’t lose immediate access to SurePoint Finance Core, your law firm will no longer be able to receive support or updates from SurePoint. This can impact you in ways such as:
- You may be unable to receive support for critical issues, which can lead to increased downtime.
- Your IT partner, in-house team, or MSP will also not have access to SurePoint support, which may render them unable to help you with issues that arise.
- Without security patching, your law firm will become vulnerable to increased threats, including data breaches and hacks—especially as Microsoft’s server changes depreciate the security of SurePoint Finance Core itself.
- Over time, the productivity of the solution will decay, as no bug fixes or improvements will be made. The solution may run slower, glitch more frequently, or break altogether.
What are our options?
SurePoint is committed to making this transition streamlined and cost-effective for law firms and their IT partners. Directly from SurePoint, here are their recommended paths forward, with a dedicated transition team to help:
- Standard support and maintenance for on-premise deployments will conclude on February 28, 2026. Firms that do not elect to enter into an Extended Special Support Agreement by that date will no longer receive support or maintenance services thereafter. All on-premise customers will be offered an efficient and cost-effective transition to Practice Pro + Finance Pro.
- Extended Special Support (available after February 28, 2026, for firms with signed agreements): continued help-desk access; best-practice guidance; documentation, training resources, and knowledge base; best-effort resolution of critical issues; advisory support for migration. Not included: new feature development or enhancements for on-premises versions of Finance Core.
- Early-adoption incentives and discounts are available to ease the impact of this change.
You will need to choose whether to purchase extended support or migrate to Practice Pro + Finance Pro. If you delay a decision, you will experience increased risk to productivity, security, and compliance after February 28th.
